Ausonia “Phantoms of Florence” is a dark fantasy tabletop deck-building card game, set in a beautifully illustrated alternative world of XVII century. Publisher wanted promotional video created for a kickstarter campaign and I was assigned to do the job.
From the very beginning I was working closely with designer and illustrator, giving them input guidelines for preparing graphical assets for the animation. As a result – I was provided with high resolution layered illustrations, including the ones specifically made for the video. I used several animation techniques in different scenes of the video, including puppet animation for creatures, live drawing and combinations of various motion design approaches for accents, transitions and background elements.
Working on this video required many of my sound design, motion design and animation skills, as well as learning a couple of new techniques – which might be the part I love the most about my work. Because accepting a challenge rewards you instantly with the thrill of a research, excitement of mastering a new professional tool and then – that heartwarming sight of an accomplished creation – a priceless feeling.
The kickstarter campaign of the Ausonia tabletop game was utterly successful, and the product got fully funded in just 5 hours!
