This project started as a 2D game and I was hired to design visual effects of certain style, and create corresponding sound design for these visuals. I handled the task utilizing my motion design skills, gained during years spent in video post production sphere. And when time came to integrate these VFx & SFx into the game, I offered to take care of it too due to having background in programming.
The game was developed in Unity real-time development platform, which provides thorough documentation meant to be used by software engineers, so I had all the resources needed to handle the integration. I chose the path of using unified asset structures and modular effects design to optimize the use of resources and minimize the number of special occasions, which might have required additional development efforts. I coded universal methods for controlling multi phase visual effects, their synchronization with sound and other timings.
I worked closely with the team of developers on integrating VFx methods into the game engine, and developed motion design guidelines for other artists hired at later stages. That approach allowed us to concentrate on creativity and easily alter modular effects, while being sure that resource usage is optimal. So when the project turned into a 3D game, updating the visual effects didn’t become a problem, but added a new dimension to creativity instead. And when it came to marketing the product, I created logo animations and edited the promotional video you see on top of this page.
